Home Support Worker

Fundraising Team Volunteer 

Lagan's Foundation is a UK Charity which recruits home support workers who can offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with babies and children under the age of 5 diagnosed with congenital heart defects or feeding difficulties in their own homes.

Candidates must be:

  • Age - 21+
  • Clean Criminal Record Check (We will carry out the check free of charge)
  • Pass our competency based training held at Alder Hey Children's NHS Trust and Southampton University Hospital
  • Pass our NSPCC Safeguarding course.
  • Give a minimum 2 hours each week 

The role includes the following:

To understand the Mission Statement for Lagan's Foundation
To understand and adhere to Lagan's Foundation policies
To attend the mandatory training requirement arranged by Lagan's Foundation before being placed with a family.
To assist on a regular basis with a child's personal care requirements to allow the primary carer a short break. This may include:

  • toileting needs
  • delivering or continuing a feeding regime
  • changing clothes
  • playing
  • supervising while the child is sleeping
  • any other specific daily requirements for the identified child

To offer friendship and personal support to families experiencing high levels of emotion.
To communicate what additional assistance may be available to the family.
To listen to families concerns and relay these concerns to Lagan's Foundation so that appropriate help or advice may be sought/offered.
To share information with Lagan's Foundation if there any concerns about the physical or emotional well being of any member of the family.
To maintain records as instructed with regards family visits, incidents etc.
To attend/complete additional training programmes supplied by Lagan's Foundation where required/requested.
To submit travel and telephone expenses promptly as agreed.
To inform insurance companies of any car used for work with Lagan's Foundation

Required commitment

To complete and return the application form and DBS Check supplied.
To complete the on-line child protection course supplied.
To attend a Lagan's Foundation arranged training course which will involve:-

  • Basic Life Support skills
  • Cardiac Care
  • Speech and Language 
  • Gastrostomy Care
  • Nutrition
  • Moving and Handling
  • Play 

To be available on a weekly basis for a minimum of 2 hours. 

To attend any additional training required.

Sessions that may be available are : Early mornings, Day time, Evenings and possible night shifts. This is flexible around your availability. 

Priority for paid roles is given to those who have volunteered for 6 months or more.

Events Team Volunteer

Lagan's Foundation hold a series of events throughout the year around Manchester and Bolton as well as exhibitions across the UK and we are always looking for new members to join us and help to make these events as successful as possible. 

Events Volunteers help raise awareness of heart defects and feeding issues and Lagan's Foundation at events around the county.

The location of the events will range from roadshows in market squares and high streets, to big events such as melas and county shows. Volunteers will also help out at conferences, sporting events and support days.

Volunteers will mainly attend events in their local region.

Each event will vary but generally we will be looking for volunteers to:

  • Engage members of the general public in a friendly and enthusiastic manner to raise awareness of CHD / Feeding difficulties and Lagan's Foundation

  • Offer appropriate Lagan's Foundation publications/materials

  • Answer general enquiries and direct any medical or other specific questions to the appropriate member of staff

  • Encourage people with affected children to leave their details so that we can forward them further information

Timescales (e.g. hours, day or length of volunteering role)

The timing of the events will vary. Most events will take place at weekends and will last from approximately 10am – 4pm; however, we will also be looking for volunteers that can help out during the week and in the evenings.

This is a very flexible volunteer role; you will have the opportunity to select which events you can attend. You can fit your volunteering round your existing commitments.

Operations Apprentice

The new Operations Apprentice (Management Level 4) will have a passion for the third sector, management and develop an in-depth knowledge across all of our charity partners. They will be able to build and lead multiple teams via distance management, reacting quickly to multiple issues simultaneously. The candidate will be able to report back the most crucial information concisely to our CEO and management team and fit seamlessly within the wider operations team. 

Benefits of working with Lagan's Foundation are career progression, and a salary of £14000 - £16000 per annum (37.5 hours/week). After one year of service they offer an extra day of leave and an Occupation Sick Scheme. 

The nature of the role may require working unsocial hours including weekends, Bank Holidays, early starts and some evenings. Occasionally you will be required to stay away from home to attend fundraising events in other parts of the country, or for training and conferences. Training can be provided however knowledge/understanding of the charity services and client partners is desirable.
